Established, funded, and operated a successful California 501c3 non-profit corporation. Worked 
with highly-skilled partners (United States Navy SEAL officers) to create a multi-discipline 
outdoor/adventure program for at-risk high school students. Disciplines included orienteering, 
mountain biking, hiking, kayaking, and mountain climbing. Collaborated with partners to research, 
contact, and file proposals to secure funding--grants, donations, corporate contributions of 
capital and equipment) and acquire bikes, climbing gear, navigation tools, kayaks, life preservers, 
shoes, jackets, and other equipment. Accompanied and assisted students through a three-tiered program
which included a classroom component, an outdoor component (which challenged them to navigate an
approximately 35-mile trek though the East San Diego County wilderness), and a follow-up component
which included volunteer opportunities for students who wanted to assist us with the following 
student group's outdoor experience. Each life-changing outdoor adventure ended with an exciting, 
rewarding experience--rappelling down a sheer cliff from the side of a 300+ foot peak.

Designed, created, and implemented a digital study companion for The Dream Pioneers, a 60-minute documentary 
film featuring renowned author Ray Bradbury, special effects innovator Ray Harryhausen, and publisher 
Forrest J. Ackermann. Produced written content to supplement the message delivered by featured celebrities 
who explain how ambition and persistence increase the likelihood of genuine success. Designed and created 
logos, brochures, and all advertising materials. Delivered formal and informal presentations for network 
executives and school administrators. Worked with the Advanced Propulsion Group Leader at NASA/JPL’s Pasadena 
facility, and motion picture industry leaders—John Landis, Frank Darabont, Phil Tippit, Dennis Muren. Received 
a Congressional Letter of Commendation to acknowledge the quality and significance of project.

Grossmont Union High School District 
1989-2004
Designed, created, and implemented an on-campus, alternative educational program at El Capitan High School 
(Lakeside, CA). Responsibilities included program management and on-going development to provide practical 
options for students in transition to/from other schools, at-risk of dropping out, or returning to school 
after extended absences. Two successful years at El Capitan resulted in an invitation to join the faculty 
at Chaparral Alternative/Continuation HS (El Cajon, CA). Managed/coordinated the WASC Accreditation process. 
As a result of this successful effort, Chaparral was recognized by WASC with a full, six-year term of accreditation—
the only District school to earn the distinction. Served as the school’s Title I Coordinator and succeeded 
in qualifying the site for Title I school-wide status. This re-classification increased Title I funding at 
the school from $14,000 per year to over $120,000 per year for ten consecutive years. Awarded Teacher of
the Year honors twice.

Taught 7th and 8th grade (full-time) English and United States History, served as school yearbook advisor/editor, 
coached basketball, softball, track and field, and worked as the public speaking coach for students who were

8th grade commencement exercises.

Assisted and advised the author and founder of the US Hostage Working Group as he wrote a first-hand account 
of kidnapping, hostage taking, victim location, negotiations, and victim rescues by Dan and his team during 
two years of this US Navy SEAL officer’s service at the United States Embassy in Baghdad, Iraq. 

Paying the Rent

Assisted and advised the author with his a non-fiction memoir. Mr. Eiden is a retired attorney whose work included 
Civil Rights activism during the 60s and 70s when he was an important member of legal teams who represented a number 
of significant, internationally known clients and their causes. Among Eiden’s achievements was the investigation, 
identification, and prosecution of an organized, racist group that operated within the ranks of the Los Angeles County 
Sheriff’s Department.
